Symbolic Twitter Handles
I just registered a new Twitter handle today: @dashdashgreater
Now, that's a meaningless handle written out using letters, but here's what it would look like on a business card:
Steve Brownlee . Builder of Things . Nashville, TN
Twitter: @-->
LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/stevenbrownlee
How cool is that?
Of course, it's not really idiot proof, because it could also be interpreted as @hyphenhyphengreaterthan
, which, of course, is too long for Twitter handle.
Oooooh, I just thought of my next weekend project! Build a service that takes a symbolic Twitter handle and redirects to its alphanumeric endpoint. I could call it pictwigram or twimbolic. All you would do is go to a URL like...
pictwigram.com/@-->
and it would redirect to
twitter.com/dashdashgreater
I think people could remember symbolic handles much easier than @glopez479
. The downside is that there aren't that many memorable pictograms. I'm not sure that @&!+#
is any more memorable than @noluck900
.
Anyway, I think it's a cool idea, but not sure if it's for everyone.
